EuroWeb and HERITEX-HUB: A Success Story from COST

The COST Association has just published its Annual Report for 2025, in which COST Action EuroWeb (CA19131) and its follow-up, COST Innovators Grant HERITEX-HUB (IG19131) have been featured as success stories for the COST funding framework.

This report highlights the range of activities undertaken by EuroWeb and the its enduring impact on the Textile Heritage Research ecosystem, namely through platforms such as the EuroWeb Digital Atlas of European Textile Heritage and the Textile and Clothing Terminology Online Platform.

It also places special value on the way these projects managed to bridge research about historical and traditional practices and contemporary challenges regarding the sustainability of textile production.

This showcase is another recognition of the intense and productive work undertaken by the EuroWeb network, the fruits of which are still coming forward with new research, new projects, and new outlooks.

EuroWeb at the Festival of the New European Bauhaus 2024

Between the 9th and the 13th of April Brussels will once again host the Festival of the New European Bauhaus, an initiative of the European Commission in collaboration with the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

As part of the European Green New Deal and its cultural programme, the New European Bauhaus, this Festival will be a showcase for projects, creators and innovators which are leading the way in achieving sustainability and inclusivity across Europe.

The Festival will comprise three components – the Forum, the Fest, and the Fair. EuroWeb will be represented with a booth at the latter, which will take place in the Brussels Museum of Art and History in the iconic Cinquantenaire Park of Brussel’s European Union District.

Come visit us at our booth to learn more about the Action and its work, about European Textile Heritage, and to talk to us about how research dealing with this Heritage can be used to inspire innovative pathways to sustainability in the Textile and Fashion Industries.

You can also join our LAB activity (10th of April, 10:30 – 11:30h), on ‘Natural Fibres and Dyes: Exploring Traditional Materials for a More Sustainable Fashion Industry’, where we will be experiencing natural fibres and dyes and traditional textile techniques while discussing what consumers can do to foster systemic change in the Fashion Industry. You can also consult the resources we put together for our visitors during the Fair here.

If you cannot join us in Brussels, you can still be a part of the Festival by joining one of the many Satellite Events taking place across Europe.

New YouTube Series “EuroWeb Conversations”

EuroWeb has just launched a new YouTube series, EuroWeb Conversations. This podcast-style series of thematic conversations aims to bring together Action members to share their experiences and map out the features, achievements, and challenges of the textile research field.

The first instalment features Action members and Early Career Researchers Alina Iancu (RO), Leyre Morgado-Roncal (ES), Meghan Korten (IS) and Ronja Lau (DE). In this episode, they discuss what made them choose textiles as a research topic, how that choice was received, and what their experiences working on textile archaeology and history have been like.

Online launch of the short film «Textile Workshop: EuroWeb Training School at Malia»

EuroWeb is happy to invite its members and everyone interested in textiles and textile crafts to joins us for the official online launch session of the short film «Textile Workshop: EuroWeb Training School at Malia», directed by Hélène Michel-Béchet.

The film was recorded last July in Malia, Crete (EL), during the Training School on hands-on approach to textile tools: documentation, functionality and use-wear. Textile tools from Bronze Age Malia, Crete as a case study.

Join us and the film director on the 15th of November at 16h (CET) to watch the premiere of this short film, which will then be available on the EuroWeb YouTube channel.

The EuroWeb Ancient Fashion Week in Media

Between the 16^th and the 20^th of May Muro Leccese (IT) hosted the EuroWeb Ancient Fashion Week, a double feature event locally organized by Working Group 4 Leader Francesco Meo, with the collaboration of several other EuroWeb members.

The Ancient Fashion Week, which included the Training School “Embroidery: Terminologies and Practices from Ancient to Modern Times” (a joint initiative of Working Groups 2, 3 and 4), a Management Committee Meeting, and the International Conference “Textile Production, Consumption and Trade in Iron Age Europe”, was a great success, both from a networking and a scientific point of view.

This initiative was also very well received by the media, having received considerable attention from both regional and national Italian outlets. Below you can find some of the media coverage for this event and read more about it.
